What have you been up to?
It has been pretty quite on this blog, are you still blogging? What is snooping up all the time you usually got for writing blog posts?
Talks
I’ve been busy with all the talks I was/will be giving:
- 16th May Microsoft Security NL or check out LinkedIn
- 24th May Workplace Dudes Summit
- 1st June CollabDays Netherlands 2024
- 4th June Experts live last tickets are selling out fast! LinkedIn
Apart from all the talks that take up time to prepare, I have some accidentally popular posts on LinkedIn. Some of which actually deserved their own post here.
Why I contribute to open-source
Yesterday some fellow developer asked me why I was sharing a lot of my knowledge for free as hashtag#opensource contributions. That knowledge is your value, he continued.
Let me explain:
- I got some of that knowledge by countless hours browsing through other docs and open-source projects.
- If I’m the only one using the knowledge I feel like I’m not getting everything out of it, and most goes to waste.
- I’m one of those guys that learns by doing, so creating a new project or solving a complex puzzle actually helps me learn.
Something conditional access
conditional access question
Do you exclude the break glass accounts directly or do you use a security group for that? what is the best practice? And if you use groups, do you then monitor that it only has those members?
Brainstorm
I’ve been working with Waldeck Mastykarz on a new design for the Dev Proxy. We have this idea on how the future dev proxy could look like. Some features that might appear in the next versions:
- Rest API to control the proxy
- Rest endpoints for plugins
- Integration with Aspire
- Obserability
- Better logging
Open-source
Sounds busy right? I also found some time do do some open-source work:
- Removing docs from Maester 📖
- Deep down Kiota library 🧑💻
- Use Kiota with Dependency Injection 📖
- Sample Kiota with Dependency injection 🧑💻
- Launched WinTuner website 🌍📖
- Created a PowerShell module for WinTuner 🧑💻
- New version of PowerShell base module to allow everybody to build asynchronous PowerShell modules in C# 🧑💻
I just explained why I do open-source things, the time I spend on it if mostly spare time, which is why I’m participating in the GitHub Sponsors program. A way for users of these free resources so show some gratitude.
Conclusion
I’m still here, I’ve just been really busy the last couple of months. I also had some setbacks where I wasn’t picked for some really cool conferences, better luck next time.
If you are organising a conference, or know someone who is, that has a call for speakers open. Please let me know, I enjoy sharing the knowledge I gained in the past 15 years as a security minded software architect MVP Profile.
