PSConfEU virtual conference
PSConfEU mini conf 2026 was a virtual conference in a virtual venue built in Gather town. All the talks were virtual and before and afterwards you could walk around in the virtual venue.
The good
People were really engaged for this talk and I had some great conversations afterwards. I hope I was able to explain the super-super detailed stuff about the assembly load context and how it was fixed. I even got some questions from the audience.
Good question 1
Why did Microsoft not fix this themselves?
This was a somewhat expected question, thank you Andreas for asking it. Unfortunately I was not able to provide an accurate answer. I guess has to do with priorities.
Why does it even load all those assemblies
What triggers loading all those assemblies
I was not able to answer this question during the talk, but afterwards we had a little discussion about it. What we think might trigger the loading of assemblies is the use of the OutputType(...) attribute. This will actually call into the assembly to find information about that type. The statement in the talk that it had to do with using statements was probably faulty.
The Bad
This was my first virtual conference and even though I got some great virtual feedback during the session it is very hard to “feel the room” if you’re just watching to a screen. My energy was not very high as well because of a high intensity gymrace (*hyrox like event) as few days earlier.
I’m happy I actually got people responding and asking great questions, but I’m not sure if I personally get a lot of energy from giving virtual talks. I prefer meeting people face to face and seeing all the people in-person.
Conclusion
I’m happy I fixed the dependency issues with graph and it was fun to talk about. Let me know what you think on the socials and if you have an actual conference where this would make a great talk, sent me your Call for Speakers!
